Oily skin treatment can be tricky. When trying to combat excess oil, you could be having the exact opposite effect. Avoid making this common mistake, and say goodbye to oily skin and shine!
If you are suffering from excessive facial oiliness, you probably think that eliminating as much oil as possible from your skin is the answer. Well, you are not alone. It is a common mistake that we could all make. Common sense tells us that if we have too much of something we don’t want, we simply get rid of it. In our determination to stop oil at its source; we begin over-cleansing, and over-scrubbing our skin. To rub salt into the wound, the over-cleansing and over-exfoliating is done with harsh cleansers, peels, and scrubs. All capable of leaving your skin severely dried.
Once you depleted your skin of its moisture, the overproduction of oil by your sebaceous glands begins. This microscopic glands lubricate and waterproof the skin by secreting sebum, skin’s natural oil. When the surface of the skin becomes over dried and exfoliated, sebaceous glands over compensate by producing even more oil in order to protect skin’s delicate layers. Resulting in oilier skin, clogged pores, and breakouts.
To avoid this problem, fight the urge to over cleanse and exfoliate your skin. Use a mild cleanser for daily use, and scrub your skin twice a week using a gentle scrub. Be extra careful if you are treating your skin with harsh anti-acne products because they tend to over dry your skin. Your skin should always be hydrated to stop the vicious cycle of excessive sebum production.
Cheers and happy gentle scrubbing!
