Lamar Odom has taken a few steps since arriving in Los Angeles, family says, part of what they describe as “miraculous progress” for the former NBA player.

In a statement released Tuesday, Odom’s aunt JaNean Mercer and the Odom family thanked doctors and nurses who cared for him at a Las Vegas hospital, asking supporters to keep praying for him.

The former NBA star has been discharged from Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, where he has been receiving medical treatment after being found unconscious on Tuesday, and is heading to California. We’re also told that Lamar was accompanied by Khloé Kardashian in the helicopter ride to Los Angeles.

According to E Online, Odom’s transfer to L.A. was pending his condition remaining stable. Doctors were in the early stages of working out the logistics of how the athlete would be transported to SoCal, because Lamar’s stature previously prohibited him from being airlifted in a helicopter. Different Media Outlets have reported that former Laker’s health is improving day to day, but the 35-year-old celebrity is going to need “a lot” of rehab in the coming months. Lamar is “making fast progress” and can move his arms and legs, but he is not able to stand up, even with assistance. A CT scan came back clean, but there may be some cognitive issues ahead.

Though Lamar is still on dialysis due to kidney failure, he is showing signs of improvement. He passed a swallowing test, a promising sign of neurological function, and has communicated using hand signals. Additionally, he is no longer wearing an oxygen mask and is “doing great with his breathing.”

Odom’s move to Los Angeles will also help Khloé remain close throughout his rehabilitation. The star has not left his side since he was admitted on Tuesday, and a source expressed that , “She goes everywhere with him. If Lamar leaves the room for testing, she follows.”

What happened?

Little is known about what left Odom unresponsive at the brothel. Love Ranch owner Dennis Hof recently said Odom was “in a good frame of mind” when he was taken to the brothel, and that he ate and slept well there.

“He picked a couple of girls, and he had the time of his life,” Hof said.

In three days at the brothel, Odom spent $75,000, which guaranteed two women would “take care of any of his needs,” Hof told CNN’s sister network HLN.

Who is Dennis Hof?

Employees told 911 dispatchers that Odom used cocaine on Saturday — his first day at the brothel — though Hof said Saturday that any drug use happened when Odom was partying early that morning in Las Vegas but before he’d arrived at the Love Ranch.

“I’m going to protect my business, and I’m not going to let the world say that Lamar was doing a lot of drugs in my place,” he told CNN’s Michael Smerconish, saying his brothel has “zero tolerance” for illicit drugs. “Because it makes him look bad, and he wasn’t doing that.”

A woman said she also saw Odom take 10 herbal supplement tablets over three days.

The brothel’s employees said when they found him, Odom was lying in bed on his side with a pinkish fluid coming from his mouth and nose.
